5 Great Benefits Of Goal Setting For Your MLM Business!
Benefits of Goal Setting
As you probably know by now we survived the end of the Mayan Calendar which some thought would usher in the end of the world.
I along with my family had the privilege and the honor to be present at Chichen Itza the great Mayan Pyramid for the last day of their calender. It was a very memorable experience. Lots of people from all over the world showed up to witness the happening.
Thank goodness nothing happened…..the world didn’t end!
Now we must get back to work and move ahead with our lives and our business. It’s the new year coming up and it’s time to think about creating some goals and the benefits of goal setting for the first quarter and the rest of the year.
If you’re like me you are excited about what’s next on the agenda. It is with enthusiasm that you should work and develop your business.
You need goals to keep you on track. The consequences of not thinking about what you want and where you want to go might read like this:
You work and work and work everyday but when you’re finished you find you have no results and are still in the same place with no progress being made. What a waste of time! I don’t have the luxury of wasting time do you?
I’ve made a list of benefits of goal setting and what they can do for you and your business.
Take a little time now to determine where you want to go and how to get there. This will help you save time and you will also see results for all the hard work you do.
5 Benefits of Goal Setting:
1. Serves as a guide in helping you make decisions about what is important for your business and what steps you need in order to reach the goal.
When you are thinking about your goals, think about the benefit you will gain from putting in the hard work and the focus necessary to achieve that goal. Will the benefit match your expectations?
2. Separates real life actions from wishful thinking.
Remember in order to reach the goals you set you must do the work required wishful thinking will not take you there. Are you ready to take on the challenge?
Without the guide you can get lost in wishful thinking. This is where you will spin your wheels and get bogged down in busy work without any real results. This is where you waste your time. Wishful thinking can be helpful for the creative process but ultimately you have to set a plan into action.
3. It gives you a path to follow.
There is a foundation you must build for success. You can’t have a strong business without a strong foundation, athletes , musicians and yes even entrepreneurs have to develop and grow to reach success. Discipline is a part of reaching your goals. We all need to set goals to help us stay on the path and keep us disciplined as we work towards success even if it’s 6 pack abs we are wanting to achieve.
4. Benefits of goal setting helps you set priorities.
There should be goals for your life and goals for your business. Sometimes these goals will overlap.
We all want happiness and health in our lives but in our business we want to achieve success and a degree of wealth. What is important to you? Determine the order of importance and work on your goals from this perspective. Once you have the list then develop the plan.
5. Makes you responsible for you own successes and failures.
After you have defined your goals break them down into smaller steps. Really think about the process you need to go through. You can find free tools online to help you do this. Here’s one I found that’s free and fun to use!
Getting to your goal is a great feeling and can give you a great sense of accomplishment that will enhance your self esteem and confidence.
Some helpful tips for getting the maximum benefits of goal setting.
To stay accountable it is a good idea to have an accountability partner. This person should be someone who can become invested in your success. My husband is a great accountability partner. He reminds me from time to time about the business side of what I am doing. He recommended I do spread sheets for my business profits and losses. His background is in business and mine is in medicine so I appreciate the helpful tips he gives me.It’s easy for me to just get into the learning and training and also the socializing aspect of internet marketing. So having him as an accountability partner helps me stay on track.
It would also be helpful to have someone in the business who knows the challenges you face as an internet marketer. That accountability partner could also serve as a Master Mind Partner. Two heads are better than one and there are a lot of successful partnerships in internet marketing.
I would like to share with you some of my goals for the first quarter of this year.

Wow Tonya, you were actually at the great Mayan Pyramid at the time the world was suppose to end. Yep, bet everyone was glad that didn’t happen. Not that I believed it for a moment.
You are right, people do busy work without it ever really leading anywhere. I remember the days I use to do this too but dang if I wasn’t seeing anything from all that work I had done.
I don’t really write goals like most people. I think about what I want to achieve and then I write daily goals that I need to do in order to get me there. I am very blessed to be a part of a terrific mastermind group of seven amazing people who I know will be a huge part of what I’ll accomplish for this upcoming year. They will hold me accountable as I will them. We have shared our goals for the new year so now we have to take the action steps in order to get those results. I’m excited.
Thank you for sharing this and I do wish you a very Happy New Year Tonya. May all your dreams come true.
~Adrienne
Hi Adrienne,
Yes my dear, now you know how crazy I am! hehe!
We were so glad it didn’t end we had champagne on the ride back to the condo!
Busy work is the down fall of internet marketing …the internet is a great seducer…it can really take up a lot of time if you’re not disciplined in your daily action plan. That is one of my goals for the new year…become more disciplined. This should actually help us spend less time in front of the computer screen.
Question? How many hours a week do you spend on the computer? You’ve been doing this for long enough to have worked out a great time schedule…that would be a great blog post!
The mastermind group is so important and you’ve already shared your goals for 2013…that’s great.
I will be writing mine and really focusing on what I want to achieve, some of which I shared in the blog post.
I’m sure you will reach your goals and I’m happy for you in advance!
Happy New Year!
Tonya
HI Tonya
Great post!
I believe in this, Goal settings help in setting our priorities as well. Writing Goals helped me accountable to myself. The effort somewhere needs to be measured against the time to know our ROI. If the work is of no value, we don’t backout from that commitment.
We need to control the urge of working on some of the most unproductive work.
Thanks for sharing this great information.
Sapna
Hi Sapna,
Thank you for your great commnets.
It sounds like you are very familiar with goal setting. Possibly because of your previous career?
My previous career did not require this skill. I’ve always had personal goals but I am learning now how important work goals are to advancing your business.
The internet is a great seducer…I can’t tell you how many rabbit holes I’ve gone down…getting lost in what I called work…it was really a great waste of time!
That is actually one of my goals for 2013…stop wasting time…maybe that’s why my sub-conscious mind lead me to write this blog post. I realize I don’t have time to waste!
Hope your New Year is a Great One!
Tonya
Hi Tonya,
Well, I’m impressed that you were on first row for the end of the world. How glad I am that, indeed, nothing happened
But again, they’ve been announcing the end of the world many times over the course of human history.
Your tips about setting goals are very good. I know a lot of people that do confuse “wishful thinking” with “goal setting” and I’m so glad you are telling us what the difference is between the two.
Have a very Happy Goal Setting and Happy New Year!
Hi Sylvianne,
Yep, by daughter said, “Well, we’ve survived another end of the world prediction!”….it was a great reason to have a party.
It was so interesting to see the diversity of people who were there. Chichen Itza is really way out in no where but there were thousands of backpackers and tent cities set up. All the hotels were full around the site.
We go to the Yucatan on a regular basis and it just so happened the event took place while we were there for Christmas. So I am lucky I can say I was there. ( :
I think we all are guilty of wishful thinking and for me it took a while to get into the rhythm of (the work) routine required for internet marketing. I’m still working on that.
I’m looking forward to the new year and seeing what can be accomplished with goals in hand.
Happy New Year to you,
Tonya
Hi Tonya,
I’ve found goal-setting has made a big difference to my progress this year – it really started for me on a course I did, where you could put up a ‘progress log’ on the forum – I found it so motivating, actually writing down my goals and sharing them publicly with others. As you say, it makes you more accountable for your progress.
A great post – so glad the world didn’t end, but at least you’d have been in there at the finish if it had!
Sue
Hi Sue,
Yes, boy was I happy the Mother Ship didn’t come to pick us up, I really wasn’t ready to go…hehe.
Your goals setting plan last year sounds like a great way to stay accountable. Great tip!
You know it’s also great to look back on 2012 and see how far you’ve come in reaching your goals.
As I write this it is New Year’s Day….I have a journal and I will start writing my goals down for 2013 today.
Goals + Strategy + Massive Action.
Happy New Year!
Let’s make it the best one yet!
Hi Tonya,
Thanks for such a great post. I am still learning a lot about goal setting. As I am still new to all this, but I still find it very useful. I set daily goals and what a difference they made in my business but still I need to learn to set up the long term goals.
You did an amazing job in this post explaining the benefits of goal setting. I also liked your goals that you set for yourself for the new year. Looks like you are going to be very busy.
I also like the idea of the accountability partner but in my case, it is impossible to be my husband at least for the time being. LOL.
Thanks for all the tips and tricks in this post. It’s jam-packed with value.
Wish you a Happy and Successful New Year!!
Be Blessed,
Neamat
Hi Neamat,
Thanks for all the great comments of this blog post!
I think setting goals ranks very high on the list for getting the success you want.
Being accountable to (someone) is also part of the process and having a mastermind group or partner for support!
It gets awfully lonely in cyberspace some times so having this support can make a big difference.
I admire you for forging ahead even without the blessings of your husband and friends…it has to be so hard and you deserve a reward for your perseverance!
Keep going and never give up! You will be an inspiration to others and there are many who do not have support!
Happy New Year!
Tonya
Hi, Tonya,
I like the picture from Chichen Itza the great Mayan Pyramid. I wish I would go there. Looks so eternal.
Goal setting is a good thing. it involves some change in our belief system as well.
I am a little hesitant about telling others and be accountable. I am surrounded by people that have no idea about my blogging. They think I should see a psychiatrist. So I keep it to myself.
Thanks for the helpful tips.
Hi Margarita,
You do need to go there! You would really like it…there is an energy there.
I am surprised you are surrounded by people who don’t know about your blogging. You do such a great job and offer some very insightful information. It is their loss!
It does surprise me when I hear about others who have NO support in what they are trying to accomplish.
I wish we could all be free to pursue our dreams without nay sayers……..
The best of luck to you in the New Year. You have what it takes so keep believing in yourself.
Tonya
Wow… now that taking the power of goal setting to a whole new level. There are so many benefits from just becoming more clear on what it is that you want. I’m with you on the video marketing, I want to put more video out into the marketplace this year.
Hi Brian,
Welcome to my blog. Thank you for the great comments.
I agree with you about the benefits of setting your goals, weekly, monthly and yearly!
I will see you on You Tube!
Happy New Year, make it great!
Tonya
Hi Tonya,
Actually committing to the work rather than the wishful thinking part must be one of the biggest downfalls of wannabe entrepreneurs.
How many times have we let our heads float up to the clouds and dream about the possibilities.
It’s great to dream sometimes but to make those dreams a reality a lot of hard work is required.
It’s so important to ensure you have targetted goals, make yourself accountable and to commit to the hard work to make everything come together.
A great article Tonya for us to take into the New Year – now that we’ve come through the end of the world
Happy New Year.
Regards,
Dean.
Hi Dean,
Happy New Year!
yep that’s the real deal…do something! take action….dig in and work it.
So many people get sucked into day dreaming and they don’t have a clue how much work it takes because they really don’t know what needs to be done.
The internet is not magic, it takes the same work ethic as any other career and there is that steep learning curve.
Thanks goodness we did make it to the end of our calender and didn’t perish at the end of the Mayan Calender….they just got tired of calculating!
Wishing you all the luck and success in the New Year!
Tonya
Hi Tonya,
Ha! That is so cool that you were at Chichen Itza at the end of the Mayan calendar. That must have been quite an event! I was there years ago and it’s a great place to visit!
Goal setting sure is important, without it, we are just spinning our wheels. I know for months when I first started out I was just doing busy work constantly and at the end of a long day, I had nothing to show for it. With goals, you can measure results…and that keeps me motivated!
I like the tool you suggested, GoalEnforcer. I’m going to try it out right now. Thanks!
Jess
Hi Jess,
Did you feel the energy at Chichen Itza? That’s what a lot of the people go there for.
You too used to spin your wheels? I am just coming out of that phase. ugh! some days it’s still a hamster wheel.
I kinda like that little tool too. It lets you break down your goals and really visualize what needs to be done.
Thank so much for you great comments.
Look forward to reading more of your great tips as well.
Tonya
Hi Tonya,
What a refreshing way of sharing your goal setting insights! You are spot on! Goal setting is a MUST. Yes, breaking into smaller practical and do-able tasks too! IT is great the your husband is a good accountability partner. I have seen many team members whose husband are quite non-supportive. I teach them how to avoid the goals and dreams being stolen! Yes, sometimes our dear friends and relatives can be dis-empowering.
The gap between ‘knowing’ and ‘doing’ is to be bridged before our goals can be realized. Thank you for the practical tool GoalEnforcer. Interesting! Not my cup of team though. I like vision board, affirmation and, recently, visualization before going to bed
Appreciate this awesome post, Tonya! I am going to share!
Viola The Business Mum
Hi Viola,
Thank you for your great comments on my goal setting posting.
Wow, you teach people how to avoid the pitfalls of having no support from loved ones in their business, that is fantastic!
It amazes me that some of the women (and I’m sure some of the men) do not have the blessing of their spouse or partner…how do they continue in this negative environment? They are truly determined people.
I like vision boards as well and affirmations but thought this tool was pretty cool and have had at least one comment where the person wanted to use it.
Thanks again for commenting and for sharing! ( :
