Thanksgiving is a wonderful day of  the year.

It ushers in  the holiday and holy season. It is fitting that we give thanks at this time of year. How did we comeThanksgiving to celebrate this feast and what can it mean for us.

The Pilgrims came to this land in 1620 for religious freedom They gave up a lot, many even gave their lives. They were on a quest for something they were passionate about.

 After a year of hardship and toll the first Thanksgiving Feast was celebrated in 1621.

The Pilgrims along with the Native Indians gathered together to celebrate the first successful harvest. This was a great day of gratitude for the blessing they were about to receive. Little did they know that their celebration and gratitude for their bountiful harvest would create a day of  thanksgiving  for our nation that is still  celebrated today.

What were the Pilgrims feeling on that Thanksgiving day so very long ago?

The word for what they were felling is gratitude. You could describe gratitude as a feeling of thankfulness for blessings or benefits you have received. We should all be grateful and acknowledge the kindness and help we receive along our journey in life.

Gratitude builds humility and generates acts of kindness,  the Pilgrims invited the Indians to come and share their blessing. Gratitude also evokes service and caring. Gratitude is the foundation for faith, courage , contentment, happiness, love and well being.

Being grateful  helps you direct your focus to the things you have and have achieved. It is a totally positive mental response and we all know we attract what we think. With gratitude you direct your focus to what you have and not what you lack.  This can change your consciousness and by changing your consciousness you can change your life. This helps you live a life of abundance.

If you are passionate about something and you are willing to sacrifice to obtain your goals you will most likely experience a lot of  gratitude. Gratitude for the people who have come into your life. Gifted, sharing and giving people who are willing to help you get what you want. The law of the universe requires you to pay it forward and to help others as well.

I practice Yoga and at the end of every class we are asked to take a moment of silence and give gratitude for the things we are thankful for in our lives. How powerful thanksgivingthis little moment is. If we all took a few moments each day, not just on Thanksgiving but everyday to give thanks for everything wonderful and good in our lives how do you think this would affect our outlook?

Here is what being thankful can do for you.

  1. It can help you focus on the positive things in your life. Your family, your friends, your opportunities.
  2. It can turn a negative into a positive. Be grateful for your challenges
  3. It makes you focus on what’s important in your life. Helps you maintain a positive outlook.
  4. It helps you to remember to thank others for all they mean and all they do for you.
  5. It helps you be humble and be thankful for all kindnesses you receive.

Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive.

Find a way to be thankful for your troubles and they can become your blessings.
